A former cricketer, Vinod Kambli, played some good matches for India a few decades ago. After 15 years, he’s coming out with baseless allegations against Mohammad Azharuddin, claiming that Azhar is responsible for fixing the 1996 World Cup semi-final match against Sri Lanka.
Vinod Kambli always wants to be on television, as any viewer can notice. He entered reality shows like Bigg Boss, Sach Ka Samnaa, etc. and has now become an expert on news channels.
On the issue of the said match, according to Kambli, if Azharuddin had elected to bat first, it would have resulted in an easy win for India. However, I’d say team spirit is equally important in achieving this goal. Though Kambli doesn’t have evidence, he continues over-reacting and crying on television. Even if investigations begin, it would be difficult to get proof after 15 years. As Azharuddin rightly said, the decision was unanimous and collective, and Kambli happened to be sleeping at that time.
Sometimes, people need to think twice when they level allegations on others. If the incident happened in 1996, he should have spoken out on the spot. It will be good to see Azharuddin giving a stern reply rather than chuckling a ‘no comments’.
